Foo Chu Scholarship

ScholarshipThe New York Coalition for Asian American Mental Health – Dr. Foo Chu Scholarship Program was created to honor the memory of Dr. Chu who worked for many years as a physician in New York City’s Chinatown.  With his dedication to the Chinese Community, Dr. Foo Chu was well respected by his peers, in the community, and by state and city government officials. He was often the “go to” person in regards to health-related issues affecting the Asian community in New York City.

In 1989, Dr. Chu and several other clinicians co-founded the New York Coalition for Asian American Mental Health. Dr. Chu was an active member of the Coalition of several years and maintained his unofficial role as an advisor even after his retirement from medical practice. Dr. Chu passed away in 2003 and left a generous donation from his estate to the Coalition.
