Membership Meeting Notice Our next general meeting will be held: Date: Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 Time: 4.30 - 6.30 p.m. Location: New York Asian Women’s Center 32 Broadway (between Morris and Exchange Place), 10th Fl., NY, NY 10004 Subway directions: 4, 5 train to Bowling Green, R train to Whitehall Street/South Ferry, E train to World Trade Center, AC to Fulton Street, 2/3, J/M train to Wall Street. Conference on Loss and Bereavement:
Cultural Aspects of Grief Among Asian Americans The conference was held on October 11, 2010, visit Resources page for conference materials. Each culture's worldview includes beliefs about the meaning and purpose of life and has its own way in dealing with loss and the end-of-life. This conference will raise awareness of the emotional impact of different kinds of loss on individuals and families, provide strategies for clinicians to help their clients cope, and provide an understanding of the bereavement process in the changing traditions of various Asian American cultures. A Socio-Cultural Study of Suicide Attempters among Chinese Immigrants in NYC Principle Investigator: Dr. Irene Chung, Associate Professor, Hunter College School of Social Work. This study held on Friday, April 11, 2008, explored the ethnic-specific and immigrant-specific issues in conjunction with other suicide risk factors with a sample of Chinese immigrants in New York City. Click for pdf of The Slide Presentation Click for pdf of Summary of findings Compulsive Gambling Among Asian Americans The Conference on Assessment & Treatment of Compulsive Gambling Among Asian American held on October 26, 2007 at the NYU School of Medicine was another astounding success. There were more than 150 attendees representing over 40 social service and mental health service organizations as well as academic institutions in the community. Mental health clinicians and professionals, addiction counselors, students and consumers were among the participants.
